Mila Kunis’ comments about weight loss have not been very well received. Rather than prove
inspirational, her comments are thought smug and daring. Mila decided to tell the world that
anyone who said they could not lose weight was lying. Her ‘insight’ comes from the gruelling weight
loss regime she undertook to lose weight for one of her most recent films, Black swan, in which she
plays a waif like ballerina.
She claims that the body can do whatever one wants it to do and that everyone has the ability to
reach their desired body shape even if they think they cannot. We think her comments to be a tad
over ambitious for those who struggle with obesity.
The only truth to what she has said about weight loss is that it will only happen of one wants
it to happen. This is true, however, there are thousands of overweight and obese people that
want desperately to lose the stones but they just cannot control their eating behaviour. Greed
is central to this problem. Appetite is psychological and there is no way to quieten this insatiable
need. Appetite suppressants, like Reductil, worked wonders for thousands of people until their
associations with cardiovascular problems meant that the pharmaceutical company had to remove
their product from the shelves.
Going from a size 10 to a size 0 might be difficult but starting at 16 stone, the road to a healthy
weight is much longer and much tougher. Weight loss treatments are few and far between at the
moment and rather than hearing comments from dieters motivated by vanity and a film career,
these people need support and understanding.
